Product Description
Hayao Miyazaki, who had been silent since the release of "Porco Rosso'' in 1992, finally released "Princess Mononoke'' in 1997. This set includes all 5 volumes of the film comic. A film comic is a book that has been re-edited from movie scenes to look like a manga.
The setting is Japan during the Muromachi period. Ashitaka, a young man living in the north, comes into contact with the god Tatari, who suddenly attacks his village, and ends up receiving a "curse" on his arm. In order to break the curse, he journeys to the west alone. During his journey, he meets San, a girl who treats a mountain dog injured by Eboshi Gozen in Shishigami no Mori. Eventually, Ashitaka becomes embroiled in a conflict with Eboshi and the mountain dogs, and sets out to find a way for the two to coexist.

This "period drama" is quite different from Miyazaki's previous works. There are no flying scenes, which is his specialty, and the girl is far from cute, living with wild dogs and hating humans. Miyazaki did not provide a hopeful ending to the film's theme of "coexistence between nature and humans.'' Still, the movie was such a huge hit that it is said that 10% of Japanese people saw it. Why not enjoy the deep and profound world of "Princess Mononoke'' with this book? (Fuzuki Tatsu)
