Architecture of Tadao Ando 1 (1)
Categories:Architecture
This book, the first in a collection of architect Tadao Ando's works, focuses on the architect's origins in housing, and includes 21 carefully selected works from his first work, "Tomijima Residence'' to his latest work, "Shiga House.''
We will introduce the "Sumiyoshi Nagaya'', whose extremeness caused controversy at the time of its publication, the "Koshino Residence'', which was a fashion designer's atelier and brought about a turning point for him, the "Rokko Apartment'', which was built on a harsh site with a steep 60-degree slope, the "4x4 house'', which created infinite space on a narrow site, and other overseas residences and ongoing projects, using beautiful photographs and drawings. Each work is a masterpiece that reveals the architect's struggle to push things to the limit.
While working on projects for prestigious museums around the world such as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Pinault Foundation, and the Pulitzer Museum, Mr. Ando continues to build small homes. Over the course of nearly 40 years, the strictness with which I approach architecture has not changed. I hope that you will enjoy reading this book the toughness that continues to challenge limits, the richness of ideas that turn adversity into an ally, the kindness that strives to provide more than the expectations of the people who live in it, and the beautifully honed and beautiful view of the world.
