First errand

Categories:Children's

Mii-chan goes out to buy milk at her mom's request. Walking alone on a road can be stressful, such as getting nervous when a bicycle rings your bell or falling down on a slope. When I went up the hill, I arrived at the store. There's no one in the store. Mii-chan took a deep breath and said, "Please give me a squeeze." But I can only hear a small voice. The people at the shop don't seem to notice little Mii-chan... This is a picture book that vividly depicts the movements of a little girl's heart.

Yoriko Tsutsui (Author), Akiko Hayashi (Illustrator)

Product Description
A long-selling book published in 1977. The story depicts 5-year-old Mii-chan going out on an errand by herself for the first time.
Mii-chan's mother asked her to buy milk for the baby. Grab two 100 yen coins and head out to the store on the top of the hill. But there were a lot of confusing things, like falling and losing money, or the store staff not coming out even when I called desperately.

Every time Mii-chan faces a difficult situation, her heart swells with anxiety and tension. However, the strong sense of responsibility that has developed in him forces him to take a step forward. The reader's heart, which had been tense and empathetic, bursts with emotion when he is finally able to buy milk thanks to the gentle treatment of the shop lady, and when the tears he had been holding back fall with a single "drop'', the reader's heart bursts with emotion. That's probably true.

The town has been created with great detail, Mii-chan's back is drawn from a watching perspective, and the people's expressions are not exaggerated but rich. Each and every carefully drawn picture conveys a lot of information. (Shima Kadokura)

Comment from the publisher
This story is based on author Yoriko Tsutsui's memories of not being able to say the words she wanted to say when she was young, and her own daughter. This idea was born from my experience of seeing people fidgeting in front of the store when I went out to run an errand. Akiko Hayashi's paintings, which have a carefree sense of humor throughout, and the meticulous care and consideration that goes into every corner of the painting to support her message, have been and will continue to touch the hearts of many children. I'm sure you'll continue to capture it. If you want to read it: From age 3
