Product Description

A long-selling picture book that directly conveys the pure feelings of children who yearn for the same things as their favorite friends. First published in 1967.
The whole family comes out to support Daruma-chan, including his father's "Daruma-don'', which is depicted in a warm and comical way. Particularly fun is the scene where the father brings out fans, hats, and shoes of various shapes and arranges them. There are nearly 40 types of hats on display, including school caps, Santa Claus hats, chef's hats, and newspaper helmets. Satoko Kako's playful way of drawing each piece, even though they are not living things, has their own expressions.
This book is the first in the "Daruma-chan series". Other works in the series include "Daruma-chan and Kaminari-chan'' and "Daruma-chan and Usagi-chan.'' (Shima Kadokura)
Comments from the publisher
This is the first work in the Daruma-chan series. The author, Satoko Kako, used to often show picture-story shows to children when she was a student, and this work utilizes the drawings she cultivated during that time to convey stories to children. In the first place, the reason why the main character was a "daruma'' was apparently that shortly after the war, when Mr. Kako was reading a foreign children's magazine, he came across a work in which a matryoshka doll was the main character. . It's a children's book without any children in it, and even though it's a toy, each character has their own personality and tells a story. So Mr. Kako thought of making toys from his own country that were interesting, and decided to include a red daruma doll, which would later become loved by children for a long time, in the picture book. The Daruma-chan series also includes "Daruma-chan and Kaminari-chan,'' "Daruma-chan and Usagi-chan,'' "Daruma-chan and Toranoko-chan,'' "Daruma-chan and Daikoku-chan,'' "Daruma-chan and Tenjin-chan,'' and "Daruma-chan and Yamanme-chan.'' there is.
