The Beauty Of Rags, The Afterglow Of Rags

Review(0)

Categories:Art

Cloths that have been a part of people's lives for generations.
The handiwork of anonymous people born in poverty is overwhelming to the viewer.

Ranru = boro, which was once used in farming villages and fishing villages in Japan.
In times when cloth was precious, people carefully pieced together fine pieces of cloth to make futons and wrap themselves as clothing. These fabrics, which are no longer seen in modern times, are now so highly regarded in the art and textile fields that they are known around the world as "BORO."

This book contains over 500 items from a collection of over 1000 items collected by the author over 35 years. The world of beauty created unintentionally by anonymous people will move your heart.

Human activities are condensed into this cloth, making us aware of the harshness of life. ?From the text

Beauty in Boro:
Kosaku Nukata Collection

The power of textile items born of need, wrought by anonymous hands, and worn over generation upon generation.

In times when cloth was much more precious, people in rural Japan thriftily stitched together scraps of fabric to make everything from garments to bedding. Although the practice no longer exists, the articles left behind have come to be celebrated as works of art and of textiles?so much so, in fact, that today they are known around the world simply by their Japanese name, boro. This book selects 500-plus examples of boro out of the more than 1,000 that the author has collected over thirty-five years. Wrap yourself in a compelling world of beauty shaped unconsciously by scores of unknown hands.
