Product Description
This is a non-fiction "wind'' reading about "MONSTER'', which was serialized in "Big Comic Original'' magazine from 1995 to 2002 and received a great response. The story begins with a brutal murder at a hospital in 2000, and a journalist named Werner Weber "covers'' the mystery of the Johann Liebert case, interspersing photographs and documents from the scene. Of course, the answer is obvious, but it is never clearly stated until the end whether the book is fiction or non-fiction.
After being interviewed by Weber, various truths are told from the mouths of Eva, Inspector Runge, and others. Fans will be happy to know that the characters are vividly drawn in a sketch style, as the author says, "As the majority of people refused to have their faces photographed, after the interview, I posted sketches of them that I remembered.''

There is no doubt that many fans were eager for a sequel or side story to Monster, which ended with many mysteries left unsolved, but if it had actually been drawn as a manga, it might have been disappointing. I take my hat off to Urasawa's brilliant skill in depicting this in the form of "nonfiction'' seen through the eyes of a third person. At the end of the book, a glimpse of the "fact" that was not depicted in the manga is told, leaving a new mystery behind. It seems like the fans' anguished mood won't go away any time soon.
