Osamu Tezuka's original manga x Osamu Dezaki's OVA storyboard ---
A collection of materials for the new "Black Jack" collaboration between the two OSAMUs!
Black Jack is a representative of various characters created by Osamu Tezuka, the "manga god'' who pioneered and led Japan's post-war culture.
The contradictory character of being an "egoist'', a genius unlicensed doctor who charges huge amounts for treatment, but also a "humanist'' who respects human life and the will to live above all else, is a hero full of complexity and depth, and is loved as one of the icons representing Japanese manga.
The manga was born in 1973. It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion and was touted as a 30th anniversary work as a manga artist, but that year was also the same year that Mushi Production, which had produced many anime works and was a driving force behind Japan's manga and animation business and culture, went bankrupt (November 1973).
With the rise of graphic novels, Tezuka's manga began to be seen as obsolete, and even in the TV animation market that Astro Boy opened up, many popular programs other than Tezuka's original works have taken over, and the brand "Osamu Tezuka'' is no longer something special.
However, despite experiencing unprecedented setbacks and suffering, Osamu Tezuka's writing of "Black Jack'' was an opportunity for him to make a major comeback as a manga artist.
Even after Osamu Tezuka's death in 1989, the character "Black Jack'', a man who mixes justice and evil, continues to survive. It recently gained acclaim as a TV drama, but as a video work, the anime series "Black Jack'', which began being released as an OVA in 1993, left a strong impression.
The director is Osamu Dezaki.
He made his directorial debut with "Ashita no Joe'' at Mushi Production before it went bankrupt, and even after leaving Mushi Production he continued with "Aim for the Ace!'' He is one of the great directors in the anime world who has created various masterpieces such as "Gamba no Daibouken'', "Takarajima'', and "SPACE ADVENTURE Cobra''.
While starting out as an animator under Osamu Tezuka, after many twists and turns, I ended up working on an original work by Tezuka for the first time, this OVA "Black Jack'' produced from 1993 to 2011.
This book, published as part of the 50th anniversary of the start of the BJ (Black Jack) serialization, is a book that combines the manga (original) side and the animation side of "Black Jack''.
A storyboard for "Black Jack'' drawn by Osamu Dezaki, who made his debut as a manga artist in a rental book graphic magazine before joining Mushi Productions. From all 10 episodes, in addition to "Carte IV: Two Black Doctors'' in which BJ's biggest rival, Dr. Kiriko, appears, various setting pictures and materials are included as an anime side.
From the original manga, "Fear Germs (original title: Incarnation of the God of Death)'', in which Dr. Kiriko appears for the first time, is printed in a raw manuscript version that makes use of pencil lines. Also included is the entire story of "The Two Black Doctors,'' which has the same title as the anime, and all the doors in which Dr. Kiriko appears (omitted in the comics).
The title is "Futari no Black Jack,'' Tezuka and Dezaki -- a collaboration of Black Jack (and Dr. Kiriko) by two OSAMU members who are closely related.
Interviews with those involved, including producer Masao Maruyama and director Gisaburo Sugii, who know Tezuka and Dezaki from Mushi Productions, will also be included.
Tezuka fans, Dezaki fans, BJ fans. This is a must-have book for people interested in Japanese manga and anime culture.
This book is published as part of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the serialization of "Black Jack".
