After working as a graphic designer, he has been active as a freelance illustrator since 1978.
It is characterized by tropical and clear landscape illustrations, as typified by Eiichi Otaki's record jackets such as "A LONG VACATION'' and "NIAGARA SONGBOOK.''
Publications include CBS Sony Publishing "A LONG VACATION'' (1979), "HALATION'', and Shogakukan "NIAGARA SONGBOOK'' (1982).
Eiichi Otaki's album jacket "A LONG VACATION'' received a gold disc from CBS Sony as the "album jacket special award.'' His style has established a unique status and has graced the record jackets of many artists such as Matsuoka Kanaoya, Hiroshi Fujiwara and Hiroshi Kawabe, Kiyotaka Sugiyama, the AOR compilation breeze series, Teen Runnings, ikkubaru, Sunny Day Service, and KASHIF.
