Hiroshi Nagai's unique style is a mixture of surrealism and pop art.
When I visited Guam and California with my friends, I encountered scenes such as palm trees, blue skies, and greenery reflecting in the light, which determined the direction of my illustrations, and further expanded my imagination to create one-of-a-kind illustrations. I think there are many people who feel nostalgic for the "scenery that can't be found anywhere else''.
Nagai was originally interested in art. Since he began his career as an illustrator in 1976, he has continued to draw what he loves and has maintained a consistent style over the years. His visuals have become a driving force behind the culture of "CITY POP" and are "universal." It has become a "target" presence.
As of 2024, we are still busy with offers from leading companies both domestically and internationally, and with respect from many artists across generations.
This book is an expanded and revised edition of "THE JOURNEY BEGINS,'' the first collection of self-recommended works that was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name held at Ginza Tsutaya Shoten from the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023. From the early works that shaped Hiroshi Nagai to his recent paintings, record jackets selected by Nagai himself include poolside, cars, people, night views, waves, buildings, and his signature palm trees swaying in the wind. We have included only works that everyone has seen at least once in magazines, advertisements, and magazines.
The limited edition first edition, which uses cloth for the cover and was created by Yoxxx, a designer who continues to design artwork for many of Nagai's works, created a great response after its release. We have heard from people who have picked it up that it brings back dream-like memories and memories of the 1980s, and that they are amazed at the quietness that makes it feel like time has stopped, even as they feel the presence of humans. Even after the exhibition ended, the books continued to sell and quickly sold out, and the prices of used books continued to rise.
This time, while making use of the contents of this first edition, we have changed the cover from cloth to paper cloth as a popular version. We will be publishing this as a [revised and expanded edition] that includes three new works, including works that were presented at previous exhibitions.

Born December 22, 1947 in Tokushima City.
After working as a graphic designer, he has been active as an illustrator since 1976.
Eiichi Otaki's record jackets and advertising visuals such as "A LONGVACATION'' and "NIAGARA SONG BOOK'' are still talked about to this day, and he continues to produce universal works that are widely loved.
He also engages in a wide range of activities such as DJing and music criticism.
