English follows Japanese.
Greetings, self-introductions, simple answers...
Anyone can be taught the first steps in communication

"Marugoto'' is a book where people can actually communicate in Japanese. This textbook aims to help students understand each other through communication. Each topic depicts a situation where people from diverse cultural backgrounds interact in Japanese, and there are hints for understanding different cultures in various places such as the content of the conversations, photographs, and illustrations. It also emphasizes the role of audio input in language learning, and includes many classroom activities that involve listening to natural conversations. The goals for each lesson are set in the form of "Can-dos", such as "What can you do using Japanese and how?", and the Introduction (A1) covers basic expressions and phrases used in daily life. We aim to reach a level where you can understand.
Introduction (A1) consists of two books: "Katsudo" and "Rikai". At Katsudou, we aim to develop practical communication skills through listening to a lot of Japanese and practicing speaking. At "Rikai,'' you can systematically learn about the mechanisms of Japanese that are necessary for communication. Both "Katsudo" and "Rikai" are the main teaching materials and have the same topics. You can use either one depending on your learning purpose, or you can study both to improve your Japanese language skills comprehensively.

"Malugoto'' is featured in a class called "Introduction to Japanese Language Education''. The perspective of learning the necessary sentence patterns and vocabulary for the clear purpose of having a conversation about a single topic is completely different from the grammar-first foreign language education students have received, and seems very fresh. Also, the rich illustrations and photos included in each section are a big draw. Illustrations and photos spark your imagination and motivate you to talk about the topic. "Marugoto'' is a wonderful teaching material that will help you get back to the basics of learning a language to communicate.

"Before I knew it, Japanese was coming into my ears and I was able to have real communication.''
There are many foreigners who want to speak Japanese with Japanese people since they came to Japan, but many people think that they can't speak unless they learn this, or that they can't listen unless they understand this. It's also true. With "Marugoto,'' you can listen to it first and start with a basic understanding, which greatly lowers the hurdle. There's also the fun of discovering the rules yourself. And before you know it, you'll be able to hear Japanese and have real communication. Marugoto is such a text. It is popular not only with students but also with teachers who teach it.

Marugoto is a coursebook for adult learners of Japanese that is based on the JF Standard* for Japanese Language-Education. Learners at Starter level (A1) can understand the basic phrases and expressions used in everyday life. Based on the philosophy of ?gJapanese for mutual understanding," each topic features people from a variety of cultural backgrounds interacting in Japanese. Hints about cross-cultural understanding, such as in dialog content, photos, and illustrations, can be found throughout the book. Marugoto also places importance on audio input for language learning, with many classroom activities for listening to natural conversation.
Starter level (A1) is composed of two volumes, Katsudoo (Coursebook for communicative language activities) and Rikai (Coursebook for communicative language competences). In Katsudoo the aim is to develop practical communicative ability through listening to a variety of Japanese and speaking practice. In Rikai you are able to systematically study the language system needed for communication. Both Katsudoo and Rikai can be main teaching materials, and the topics are the same. Depending on one's study goals, either book can be used independently, or both together to improve overall Japanese ability.
*JF Standard is based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) . This CEFR scale makes the content of Marugoto easy to compare with other language resources.
