Categories:Manga & Anime Artbooks
The definitive book of Studio Ghibli's "Another Masterpiece'' "I Hear the Sea,'' which is deeply loved across time - finally published!
Studio Ghibli produced a full-length animated film for a TV special in 1993 called "I Can Hear the Sea'' (original work by Saeko Himuro).
This work, set in Kochi and Tokyo, depicts the irreplaceable days of the protagonists Rikako Muto, Taku Morizaki, and other high school boys and girls. Under the name of the Studio Ghibli Young Production Group, this work was created with the dreams and passion of the young staff responsible for the future of Japanese animation, including director Tomomitsu Mochizuki, animation director Katsuya Kondo, art director Naoya Tanaka, and others.
May 5, 1993 - This work, which has been handed down as a legend since it was first aired on Nippon Television, has recently been a "new discovery'' by young viewers. When it was re-released in theaters in Shibuya, Tokyo (Bunkamura Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita) in March 2024, it became a long-running hit with packed houses every day, and became a symbol of the Reiwa "revival" phenomenon.
?@This book, published after 31 years, generously incorporates as many visuals as can currently be collected. In addition to the film story told with the best 30 cuts selected by director Mochizuki himself, various color illustrations with beautiful image quality, character settings, art boards, etc., 140 beautiful illustrations by Katsuya Kondo drawn during the original serialization in the monthly magazine "Animage" are included for the first time in full color, including unused ones.
In addition, character drafts drawn before the series and valuable materials from Mr. Kondo's sketchbooks are also published for the first time.
The gallery at the end of the book features images of posters, promotional materials, and past products from the time, and also includes new interviews with director Mochizuki, animation director Kondo, and producer Nozomi Takahashi from the time of production and for this book.
This is a luxurious visual book that fully conveys the charm of Ghibli's legendary masterpiece "The Sea Can Hear'', aimed at Generation Z who found new value in this work and fans of Real Time in 1993.
(In commemoration of the publication of this book, Bunkamura Le Cinema A special screening will also be held at Shibuya Miyashita)
