Review(0)

Categories:Modern Novels

[New edition, new Yukio Mishima]
With this confession, I will sentence myself to death.
First newly written feature. A masterpiece that includes everything that came after. [New Commentary] Fuminori Nakamura

``I'' is a boy who does not feel attracted to women, yearns for a bloody death, and is troubled by his own sexual orientation. As the sound of military boots grows louder, he meets his classmate's younger sister, is loved by her, and is intoxicated by what appears to be happiness, but the moment his lips meet hers, he says, ``I understand everything. I must escape as soon as possible.'' --. What amazing state did the boy reach? An elegant yet scandalous sexual autobiography in which he put himself on the guillotine.
At the end of the book, there are detailed notes on terminology, historical background, etc., explanations by Shoichi Saeki, Tsuneyoshi Fukuda, and Fuminori Nakamura, and a chronology.

If this happened to be said in front of a guest with whom she was not familiar, my grandmother, worried that she might be thought of as an idiot, interrupted her in a harsh voice and told her to go over there and play. . ...("Chapter 1")
