This is the first collection of Otomo's complete works version of "AKIRA'' (all 8 volumes), which was created by Katsuhiro Otomo when he was 28-29 years old in 1982-1983, and contains episodes 1 to 14 (up to page 279 of volume 1) of the serial "AKIRA'' that he started in Young Magazine, which was only 2 years old at the time, in the original format.
This historical work that had a huge impact on the manga world is famous for its completeness, but the author actually did a lot of polishing up when it was made into a book.
The book has been refined through additions, corrections, deletions, substitutions, replacement of pages and panels, addition of finishing touches, new drawings, etc., and has been completed in the Yanmaga book version of "AKIRA'', which continues to be read even today, 40 years after its first edition.
In particular, it is famous that the cover art of each serialized story is removed from the book.
However, in accordance with the idea of ??"arranging all of Otomo's works by era, so that we can track how he has changed as a writer,'' we have decided to return everything, including the cover art, to the state in which it was serialized as much as possible, and to publish it as a "serialized version'' that is reprinted in the form before it was modified for the book.
There are some parts where the original illustrations no longer exist, or because the manuscript was directly revised, so it is impossible to restore them to the state they were in when they were serialized, but in the complete edition, the mission was to "return them to their original state as much as possible.''

About the author

Debuted in 1973 in "Manga Action". His representative works include "Domu'' and "AKIRA.''
In 1988, the animated film "AKIRA" that he produced received high praise outside of Japan and became the forerunner of the Japanese anime movement (Japanimation) overseas.
In 2013, received the Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Japanese government. In 2014, he was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.
