Private View - Masahisa Fukase

The final point of the perspective that Masahisa Fukase pursued throughout his life.
The "Personal View" series is considered the culmination of Masahisa Fukase's work as a writer. This book is based on a group of prints that were presented twice in the form of exhibitions.
In the photo exhibition held in 1990, "Personal Views - News from Travels'', parts of Fukase's own body were reflected in photographs taken during a trip to Europe and India the previous year.
?gOf course I am the subject of the photograph, but the way I set the distance to the person behind me is interesting, so sometimes I feel like it would be better if my face is not included, but "I know it, but I can't stop.'' '92')
The photographs, which he held a camera with one hand and pressed the shutter facing himself, also objectified Fukase himself as the photographer, and were given the name "Private Views'' because "They may be hands, feet, faces, or sketches of the city, but they can all be said to be reflections of myself'' (Frontispiece Notes "Private Views - News from Travels'').
In the works included in "Private View '92" held in 1992, silver halide prints are colored with watercolors. Born into a family that ran a photo studio, Fukase's perspective as a photographer is put to good use, and his intense brushstrokes seem to go beyond the framework of photography.
"Private Views'' are a combination of perspectives that Fukase pursued throughout his life, such as the relationship between the viewing subject and the viewed object, and his interest in surrealism.
This book can be said to be the final point for Fukase, whose career as a writer came to a halt after the publication of "Personal View '92''.
